Raees Ali Delvari (circa 1882 – September 12, 1915) was a constitutionalist fighter and the leader of the uprising in the south in Tangestan and Bushehr against British forces during World War I.
Raees Ali Delvari was born in 1882 (1299 in the lunar calendar) in the village of Delvar, which belongs to the Tangestan region. Delvar is now a city in the Tangestan county in Bushehr province. With the start of the Constitutional Revolution, Rais Ali, who was only 24 years old, became one of the pioneers of constitutionalism in southern Iran and began close collaboration with revolutionary circles and constitutionalist elements in Bushehr, Tangestan, and Dashti.
Tomb and Commemoration
His body was initially buried near the shrine of an Imamzadeh in the village of Kalleh Band. However, according to his will, after the transfer of his body, it was buried next to the shrine of Ali ibn Abi Talib in Wadi al-Salam
The 80th anniversary of his killing was held in 1994 in Bushehr. Every year, his memorial is celebrated in Bushehr province, especially in his birthplace, Delvar, on the anniversary of his death
National Day of Struggle against Colonialism
In Iran, by the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 2010, the anniversary of the killing of Raees Ali Delvari, corresponding to September 3rd, has been designated as “National Day of Struggle against British Colonialism”.
