Highlights

  • The Monar Jonban complex consists of several sections:
  • Minarets:The minarets are the most important part of the complex. Each minaret is 9 meters wide and 17 meters high. They are decorated with turquoise polygonal tiles and four-pointed star-shaped lapis lazuli tiles. The unique feature of these minarets is that when one minaret is shaken, the other also vibrates. This phenomenon is not limited to the minarets alone. The scientific reason behind this movement is the resonance phenomenonsince the towers have the same natural frequency, shaking one causes the other to vibrate as well.
  • Iwan (Porch): The iwan of the complex houses the tomb of Sheikh Amir Abdullah and stands 10 meters above the ground. It is constructed with bricks, and its interior dome is decorated with tiles and paintings. Near the iwan, several white tombstones can be seen, which are believed to be remnants of an old cemetery over which the monument was built. A spiral staircase leads from the iwan to the rooftop and minarets, though access to these areas is restricted for visitors.
  • Chelleh-Khaneh (Retreat Rooms): The complex includes two small rooms known as Chelleh-Khaneh, which were used by mystics for spiritual retreats. These rooms provided a secluded space where ascetics and Sufis would spend 40 days in solitude, practicing self-discipline and engaging in spiritual devotion.
  • Atashgah of Isfahan:Near this monument, there is another historical site known as Atashgah. The Atashgah of Isfahan, also called Mount Atashgah, is one of the city's oldest structures, dating back to the 6th century BCE, before the Sassanian era. Fire temples were primarily places of worship for Zoroastrians, where the sacred fire was kept.
  • This site has a rich historical background and has been used in different periods. The original name of the structure was Mehrbin Fortress or Mehrbin Fire Temple, but today, it is commonly referred to as Atashgah or Mount Atashgah.
