- In the heart of Shiraz, there is a beautiful castle called Arg Karimkhan Zand. This castle was built during the Zand Dynasty and by order of Karimkhan Zand himself after he made Shiraz his capital. It also became known as Arg Karimkhani because of his residence in this castle. It is interesting to know that this building is so important to Karimkhan that he gathered the most skilled architects of the time and built them the finest materials inside and out to build a castle that would represent his rule in the years to come.
-
Arg Karimkhan was built in the introverted architectural style, which was often used in Isfahan buildings. Introverted architecture means that the inside of the citadel is decorated with delicate decorations and has a luxurious interior; but the exterior is very simple and unadorned.
Most of the materials of Arg Karim Shiraz are stone and brick. It is worth mentioning that all the marble stones of this building were brought from Tabriz. - Upon entering the Arg of Karim Khan in Shiraz, you will realize that its architecture was not only a residence for another system. The rooms that are located all around are connected to each other. Each of these rooms is beautifully decorated. The stained glass windows of the rooms are also enchantingly beautiful when the sunlight shines into the rooms. The presence of fountains and gardens gives this castle a more delicate spirit.
- Inside the beautiful and decorated rooms of this section, special wax statues of Karim Khan, the state officials and his entourage have been made, which revive the environment inside his court.
- In decorating the walls, gold sheets with a relatively dark red color have been used to give the interior walls of the royal buildings a more beautiful taste.
- Behind the Karim Khani Citadel, there are many ice cream and faludeh shops where you can have a wonderful faludeh. Before or after sightseeing, it doesn’t matter when you try Shiraz ice cream or faludeh, whatever you taste will be memorable.
Attractions around Karim Khan Zand are Hafeziyeh Tomb, Vakil Bath, Nazar Bagh and Vakil Mosque, which you can access without the need for a car.
