Golestan Province is one of the northern provinces of Iran.
Golestan is a new name for a historical land that has been known throughout history and until the seventh century AH as the province of Gorgan, and thereafter until the beginning of the tenth century as Astrabad, and in the writings of the early Islamic era as Jurjan, and since Esfand 1316 it has been called Gorgan.
One of the factors effective on the economy of Golestan Province is tourism. This province, with its beautiful regions and cities, attracts many domestic and foreign tourists every year. Golestan National Park
Golestan National Park, or Golestan Forest, is a protected area in the east of Golestan Province and the west of North Khorasan Province. This area is the oldest registered beautiful national park in Iran and a unique sanctuary for wildlife, hosting 1,350 plant species and 302 animal species, including half of Iran's mammal species, within its approximately 900 square kilometers of area. For this reason, it has been registered by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve in the UNESCO World Heritage.
The Gonbad-e Qabus Tower is the tallest brick tower in the world.
This tower was built in 397 AH under the command of Shams-al-Maali Qabus ibn Vushmgir and is currently located in the city of Gonbad Kavous. This tower stands at a height of 60 meters atop a 15-meter artificial hill and is considered the largest brick structure in the world. This building was registered as a national heritage site in 1310 in the Iranian calendar (1931 AD) with the number 86, and in Tir 1391 (July 2012) it was also registered as the fifteenth Iranian site on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Naharkhoran Forest Park
This park is located 5 kilometers south of the city of Gorgan and is known for its tranquility, restaurants, hygienic water supply network, and other amenities, making it an attractive destination for tourists. Most travelers heading to Mashhad spend several hours in this park.
Alangdare Forest Park covers an area of 185 square kilometers and boasts a unique landscape. It has been selected and introduced as one of the 7 exemplary tourist regions of the country and also as a prominent forest park in the northern part of the country. The air in the forest is at least 10 degrees cooler than in urban areas. There is a special vegetation cover on the slopes of the forest, as well as rivers and springs.
The Ziarat Waterfall is located amidst the Nahar Khoran forest and on the outskirts of the Ziarat village. Nahar Khoran is a forested area in the south of the city of Gorgan, situated eight kilometers from the city center.
Kabodval Mossy Waterfall This waterfall complex is located in a relatively deep and very beautiful valley within the dense and picturesque Kabodval forest. The Kabodval waterfall is situated 5 kilometers south of Aliabad Katul and has always attracted the attention of tourists. Kabodval is the only completely mossy waterfall complex in the world.
